Meet the architect / We like Chuck

I'm one of those lucky people to have a brilliant cousin who happens to be an architect, and amazingly, agreed to let us hire him to design our dream home. Introducing Mr. Gabe Derksen. We visited the site with Gabe, within a week of our big purchase. This is the photo he took of us in front of our new little old house on the lot we planned to build on.


Gabe came up with a brilliant plan and was immensely patient with all our ideas, questions, revisions, etc. This is the floor plan as of October 12, 2006. Only minor changes have been made since this was presented to us. This is the house that we dream about at night and the current cause of Kevin's insomnia.




Having Gabe working with us on this project has been great. The next step was to find someone to build it for us. Enter Chuck Handford of World Wide Construction. We have a little mantra in our house ever since we met him. It goes something like this, "We like Chuck. We like Chuck." Chuck is experienced, patient (willing and able to answer all our detailed questions no matter how late it seems to get), and totally solution-oriented. There appear to be no problems that cannot be solved. And, he deals with the city and permits for us! Yippee! We like Chuck. We like Chuck.
